In a matter of weeks we will be celebrating the festive season – a time for families and friends to get together for some fun and relaxation enjoying good food and good Summer weather.
This is also the time when we don’t give a second thought to the mother or caregiver of a disabled child or adult who never gets invited out – the child who has never seen the bright Christmas lights or the decorations in store windows.
As we sing Silent Night and other Christmas songs, may we not forget the disabled, the aged and those caring for those in need who would also like to get out and be amongst family and friends celebrating and enjoying the good weather.
Just because certain children are not able to communicate verbally, does not mean they are not able to communicate. Just because a child cannot play with a toy does not mean they don’t deserve one.
Reading to a disabled child or adult can make a huge difference to them. Your time means more to them than any fancy gift.
What will you do for a disabled child/adult this Christmas?
