Mainstreaming Accessibility for an Inclusive Future
Natalie Johnson

We attended the Mainstreaming Accessibility for an Inclusive Future event at Artscape Theatre Centre on Thurs 24.10.2024 on World Polio Day.

The event commemorated World Polio Day and launched the newly installed Loop system. The Western Cape Network on Disability facilitated the installation of this ground-breaking system at the Artscape which is now the first theatre on this Continent to have this equipment.

Installed by the Western Cape Government the hearing loop is an assistive listening system that provides access to facilities for those who experience hearing loss and use an assistive device such as a hearing aid or have a Cochlear Implant. It takes a sound source and transfers it directly to a hearing device without background noise, interference or acoustic distortion. The hearing impaired will now be able to experience a world class production event like any other patron.
